Antique Teapot – Manufacture Bernardaud – Limoges, c. 1920–1930
Description
Magnificent antique teapot in white Limoges porcelain, made by Bernardaud & Cie, bearing the mark “B & C° / LIMOGES / FRANCE” on the underside.
The piece features a beautifully balanced baluster form on a raised foot, with a rounded body and a slightly flared upper section. The decoration is entirely executed in white relief, with several beaded bands accentuating the junction of the body, the edge of the lid and the foot.
The domed lid is topped with a floral button finial, while the generously curved handle features a small floral relief motif at its attachment. The long, gently outward-curving spout completes the silhouette, combining classical elegance with refined detailing.
A particularly fine example of the aesthetic of early 20th-century white Limoges porcelain, where the richness of the form and relief takes the place of painted decoration.
The “B & C° / LIMOGES / FRANCE” mark visible on the underside identifies the teapot as a production of Bernardaud & Cie. A date of c. 1920–1930 is proposed based on the mark and the style of the piece.
Very good overall condition. Some minor signs of use and light superficial wear, particularly around the foot and areas of contact, consistent with the age of the piece. No apparent restoration. The porcelain remains bright and well preserved.
