Consommé Cups – Georges Boyer for Izumoden (Japan) – Limoges, c. 1980–1990

Set of 3 consommé cups in Limoges porcelain, made by the Georges Boyer manufactory and customised for IZUMODEN, a Japanese group specialising in reception venues and ceremonial services.

Made in white porcelain with a glossy glaze, these cups feature a generously flared form with two curved side handles, suited to serving hot preparations such as broths and consommés.

The upper rim and base are accented with a fine gold line, while the ends of both handles are also highlighted in gold. The gilded inscription “IZUMODEN”, accompanied by the group’s emblem, appears inside each cup.

The IZUMODEN customisation indicates that these pieces were produced for use in a Japanese establishment, most likely one of the group’s reception venues. In this context, they may have been used to serve miso soup, broths or consommés during receptions. Their two-handled form, however, belongs more to the tradition of Western tableware than to that of the traditional Japanese miso soup bowl.

The set is therefore particularly interesting for its combination of French porcelain craftsmanship and Japanese destination.
