Covered Sugar Bowl – Manufacture René Frugier – Limoges, c. 1900-1920

Large covered sugar bowl in Limoges porcelain, made by René Frugier and bearing the mark F.R.G. LIMOGES FRANCE on the base.

The piece features a generous and fluid form, resting on a small molded foot. The body is richly embellished with a completely relief decoration, composed of plant motifs and rocaille. The two side handles are themselves finely modeled, while the lid is topped with a particularly original loop-shaped finial.

The whole, entirely in white enameled porcelain, relies on a subtle interplay of volumes and reliefs rather than painted decoration. This monochrome simplicity particularly highlights the modeling work and the decorative quality of the piece.

The F.R.G. mark corresponds to the production of René Frugier, a porcelain manufacturer established in Limoges and active from the beginning of the 20th century. René Frugier is notably known for his research on fire-resistant porcelains and for the development of Aluminite.
