Milk Jug – Belle Époque / Art Nouveau – Unidentified Manufacturer – Limoges, c. 1900–1910

Charming antique Limoges porcelain milk jug, unmarked, probably dating from the early 20th century, c. 1900–1910.

Of elegant, elongated form, this small jug is made of white porcelain with a glossy glaze, enhanced by beautiful moulded reliefs: vertical panels, stylised vegetal motifs and scrolling ornaments characteristic of the Art Nouveau aesthetic.

The painted decoration features delicate roses in various shades of pink, accompanied by green foliage. A fine floral garland runs around the upper part of the jug, while several roses are arranged individually across the body and near the base. The whole is enhanced with fine gilt lines, now delicately patinated with age.

The jug features a high, elegantly arched handle and a flared pouring spout, giving the piece a particularly refined silhouette.

The combination of white relief decoration, painted roses and gilding is highly representative of Belle Époque decorative porcelain and fits fully within the Art Nouveau aesthetic.

Unmarked piece, offered as Limoges porcelain based on its body, quality of manufacture, form and decoration, all typical of Limoges production of the period.

Good overall condition considering its age, with the decoration remaining well preserved.

There is some wear to the gilding, particularly along the upper rim and handle, as well as small marks and signs of age. The upper rim also has a few small old chips, visible in the photographs. The painted decoration shows slight wear in places, consistent with the age of the piece.

The porcelain itself remains well preserved, and the jug retains considerable charm.

Ideal as a milk jug, small decorative pitcher or collectible, and it can also be repurposed as a small vase for a few flowers.
