Small Art Deco covered sugar bowl – Aluminite Frugier – Limoges, c. 1920-1930

Small lidded sugar bowl in Aluminite refractory porcelain from Limoges, manufactured by René Frugier and bearing the mark ALUMINITE – FRUGIER – LIMOGES FRANCE under the base.

With a geometric and slightly faceted shape, this sugar bowl has a generous body resting on a polygonal base. It features two angular side handles and a domed lid topped with a circular finial.

Entirely made of glazed white porcelain, without painted decoration, the object highlights the purity of the material and the sobriety of the lines characteristic of Art Deco aesthetics.

Aluminite, also known as fire porcelain, is a heat-resistant porcelain developed by René Frugier in Limoges. This material allowed the manufacturer to produce utensils intended for both cooking and serving.
