Large Covered Pot in White Glazed Porcelain – Limoges, 2nd half of the 20th century

Large covered pot in white glazed porcelain, probably made during the second half of the 20th century.

The piece features a generously rounded and particularly elegant form, with the body enhanced by a rich molded relief decoration. Broad twisted gadroons spiral upwards from the lower section to the shoulders of the vessel, creating a striking interplay of light and shadow across the glossy white porcelain.

The neck is accentuated by a restrained molded band, while the two large side handles feature an arched, gently scrolled form. Their surfaces are also decorated with regular molded relief, contributing to the overall decorative and sculptural character of the piece.

The lid follows the same decorative vocabulary as the body. Its domed form is articulated with radiating, twisted ribs converging towards a substantial molded finial. Vegetal in form and slightly flared, the finial evokes a stylized bud or fruit.

The entire piece is made of white porcelain, without painted decoration or gilding. Its decorative effect relies exclusively on the modeling of the porcelain and the variations of light created by the relief work. This restraint, combined with the abundance of molded decoration, gives the piece a particularly elegant and sculptural presence.

There is no maker’s mark or manufacturer’s stamp on the underside. The manufacturer therefore remains unidentified. As the piece was found in the Limoges area, a local origin may cautiously be considered, although this cannot be confirmed.

The piece has a very slight tilt when placed on a flat surface, probably due to a slight deformation of the base occurring as the porcelain contracted during firing.

Very good overall condition, with a well-preserved glossy glaze and no major defects apparent.
