Saucers – Charles Field Haviland / Gérard, Dufraisseix & Morel – Limoges, c. 1890

A sublime set of six small antique saucers in fine Limoges porcelain, manufactured by Charles Field Haviland / Gérard, Dufraisseix & Morel (GDM).

Of great delicacy, these saucers feature a refined floral decor composed of fine sinuous branches, light foliage, and stylized flowers in pretty shades of pink. The design, particularly fine and airy, unfolds freely on the bright white background of the porcelain, with a different composition for each piece.

The decor, both romantic and delicate, evokes the Japonisme floral compositions popular in late 19th-century decorative arts. The pink flowers and soft green foliage, combined with very fine plant lines, give the set a light and timeless elegance.

The shape itself is very refined: the central well is surrounded by a discreet embossed ornament, which adds subtle richness to the porcelain without distracting from the painted decor.

These small saucers can naturally be used as saucers for cups, but their size and decor also make them particularly interesting for presenting mignardises, small cakes, biscuits, chocolates, or other sweets during afternoon tea or coffee.

Each piece bears the green CFH / GDM FRANCE mark on the reverse. This mark combines the initials of Charles Field Haviland (CFH) with those of Gérard, Dufraisseix & Morel (GDM). The Charles Field Haviland factory was taken over in 1881 by Gérard, Dufraisseix et Morel, who continued to use the CFH mark associated with GDM. This production is generally dated from 1881 to 1890.

A particularly attractive set due to the fineness of its porcelain, the delicacy of its hand-painted floral decor, and the softness of its tones, which will find its place equally well on a refined table or in a collection of antique Limoges porcelain.

Good overall condition. The decorations are well preserved, and the glaze remains shiny. Some very slight signs of use and small irregularities related to age may be present. A fine, through hairline crack is visible on one of the six main saucers, starting from the rim and extending into the well. See the last photograph.
