Set of Four Coffee Cups and Saucers – Decorated by Francis Quinque – Limoges, c. 1915
Description
Set of four white glazed porcelain coffee cups and saucers, made in Limoges in the early 20th century.
The pieces feature a delicate decoration of garlands of pink roses and green foliage suspended beneath a geometric black and gold frieze. A fine gold trim also highlights the edges.
The combination of floral and geometric elements reflects the stylistic transition of the first decades of the 20th century, between Art Nouveau influences and those that would gradually lead towards Art Deco.
The undersides bear the “F. QUINQUE LIMOGES” mark. F. Quinque is identified as Francis Quinque, a Limoges ceramicist and decorator. Pieces bearing this mark are held in the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims.
Good overall condition considering their age. Several small black firing spots and manufacturing imperfections are present on some pieces. One cup has a small hairline crack, with no effect on its stability or usability.
