Engraved Glass Liqueur Decanter – France, c. 1950

Antique liqueur decanter in clear glass, accompanied by its original stopper.

The decanter features a slightly flattened, gently flared body resting on a circular foot. Its short neck is topped with a glass stopper with a wide, circular handle.

The engraved decoration combines stylized botanical motifs with grape clusters and elongated leaves. The lower part of the body is also enhanced with geometric patterns and faceted elements, giving the piece a distinctly graphic character.

The combination of its silhouette, stylized engraved decoration and geometric treatment of the body is particularly evocative of glassware produced during the 1950s, in the context of the post-war revival of tableware design. We therefore date it to circa 1950–1960, with a preference for the 1950s.
