Celadon Porcelain Jewelry Box – France, c. 1960–1970
Description
Charming celadon porcelain jewelry box in the shape of a fish, featuring a delicately sculpted, Japanese-inspired form. The body is decorated with an elegant raised scale pattern, while the fins, tail, eyes and lips are carefully modelled.
The removable lid follows the fish’s silhouette perfectly and continues the scale decoration. It can be lifted using the dorsal fin, which serves as a finial. The entire piece is covered with a pale celadon glaze with subtle grey-green tones, giving it a bright, glossy surface.
A decorative yet functional object, designed to hold jewelry or other small precious items, with an animal-inspired form that gives it an original and sculptural character.
