Antique Teapot – Unidentified Manufacturer – Limoges, c. 1900

Antique white porcelain teapot, probably made in Limoges, with the manufacturer and pattern yet to be identified.

It features a particularly elaborate form inspired by the Rocaille decorative vocabulary. The rounded body rests on a small scrolled foot and is enhanced with broad moulded reliefs forming soft gadroons and gently undulating panels.

The upper section is outlined with vertical reliefs and a scalloped rim. The long, slightly curved spout is itself integrated into the sculptural composition of the piece. The particularly striking handle features a sinuous Rocaille-style form with raised decoration reminiscent of scrolls and foliage.

The domed lid is topped with a raised finial in the form of stylised foliage. A small vent hole is present in the lid, a functional detail commonly found on porcelain teapots.

The entire piece is made of white porcelain with a glossy enamel finish, without painted decoration or gilding. Its beauty therefore lies entirely in the quality of the porcelain and the richness of its moulded relief decoration.

The piece can be compared with certain French Rocaille-style productions in fine porcelain dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. However, in the absence of a manufacturer's mark, its precise attribution cannot be established with certainty.
