Coffee Cup and Saucer – Manufacture Haviland – Limoges, 21st Century

The cup is made of white porcelain with a glossy enamel finish, without painted decoration or a maker’s mark underneath. Its cylindrical shape, slightly flared towards the rim, is complemented by a slender and elegantly designed handle. A classic and timeless form from this historic Limoges manufactory, founded in 1842.

The particular appeal of this set lies in the saucer, also made of white porcelain and enhanced with elegant gilt decoration. A wide peripheral band in matte gold, finely worked with an engraved geometric pattern, runs around the piece. It is outlined by a delicate polished-gold line, while a second gilt line defines the central circle designed to hold the cup.

The saucer bears the Haviland manufactory mark on the underside, confirming its origin. The cup, however, is unmarked.

The set is particularly appealing for the contrast between the understated simplicity of the white porcelain cup and the refined gilt decoration of the saucer. An elegant combination, representative of Haviland’s appreciation for precious decoration and refined finishes.

This cup and saucer come from a manufactory clearance. They were classified as second choice when released from the manufactory. They remain in their original condition and may present minor characteristics or irregularities related to their classification, but are otherwise new and show no apparent defects.
