Set of Six Bread Plates – Manufacture Haviland – Gold Inlay – 21st Century

Made of white porcelain with a glossy enamel finish, these small plates feature a particularly understated and refined decoration, entirely concentrated around the rim. A wide gold band, created using the traditional inlay technique, is embellished with a fine, regular pattern of small engraved circles. It is framed by delicate polished-gold lines that precisely follow the contours of the piece.

The contrast between the matte gold and the glossy porcelain gives the decoration a beautiful sense of depth while maintaining a very clean aesthetic. The largely undecorated white centre particularly highlights the fineness and luminosity of the porcelain.

Gold inlay is a particularly demanding decorative technique: the design is engraved directly into the porcelain enamel, then filled with gold before undergoing several stages of firing and finishing, including sandblasting, polishing and burnishing. Haviland still presents this technique today as one of its most valued traditional skills.

The underside bears the mark “Haviland 1842 – Manufacture à Limoges – Décoré à la main – Made in France”.

These six bread plates come from a manufactory clearance. They were classified as second choice when released from the manufactory. They remain in their original manufactory condition and may present minor characteristics or irregularities related to their classification, but are otherwise new and show no apparent defects.
