Oval Ivory Porcelain Soup Tureen – Manufacture Théodore Haviland – Limoges, c. 1920

Large oval ivory porcelain soup tureen from Limoges, made by the Théodore Haviland manufactory around 1920.

Of generous proportions, this soup tureen features a large, gently rounded oval form. It is fitted with two softly curved side handles and a perfectly matching lid, topped with an elegant loop-shaped handle.

The piece is made of ivory porcelain with a glossy glaze, whose understated appearance beautifully highlights the relief work. The body and the edge of the lid are adorned with a delicate woven-basket relief pattern, arranged in panels separated by fine vertical lines. This entirely tone-on-tone textured decoration lends the piece a refined sense of materiality while maintaining an elegant simplicity.

The lid continues the same basket-weave relief around its perimeter and features a broad, subtly undulating edge. The interior is plain and fully glazed, reflecting the care taken in its manufacture.

A refined piece representative of the production of the Théodore Haviland manufactory in Limoges in the early 20th century, particularly appealing for the quality of its form and the delicacy of its relief decoration.
