Sauce Boat on Stand – Manufacture Charles Ahrenfeldt – Limoges, c. 1962–1969

This elegant sauce boat on stand in Limoges porcelain, made by Manufacture Charles Ahrenfeldt, features decoration attributed to the workshop of Marcel Chaufriasse, a Limoges decorator active during the 1960s.

The set consists of a two-spouted sauce boat with softly shaped, slightly scalloped lines, presented on its matching circular stand. The white porcelain is enhanced with a delicate very pale celadon green, visible along the borders and exterior surfaces.

The predominantly gold decoration takes the form of an elegant stylized foliate frieze running around both the sauce boat and the stand. It combines scrolling foliage, leaves and small floral motifs in a refined decorative style, complemented by small touches of gold applied selectively to the white surfaces. The sauce boat’s side handles are accentuated with fine gold lines.

The decoration is particularly appealing for its highly graphic character and sophisticated combination of celadon green, white and gold, characteristic of high-quality decorative porcelain of the 1960s.

The underside of the stand bears the Charles Ahrenfeldt, Limoges manufacturer's mark, together with the inscription “Objets d’Art Marcel Chaufriasse Limoges”, precisely linking the piece to Marcel Chaufriasse’s decoration workshop.

Manufacture Charles Ahrenfeldt, founded in Limoges in the late 19th century, continued production until its definitive closure in 1969. The presence of both the Ahrenfeldt mark and the Marcel Chaufriasse inscription places this set in the 1960s, probably c. 1962–1969.
