Pair of serving dishes – “Pondichery” pattern – Manufacture Bernardaud – Limoges, c. 1970–1980

These two serving dishes feature the famous “Pondichery” pattern, characteristic of Bernardaud’s 20th-century production. Inspired by Oriental designs and the porcelain of the East India Companies, the decoration combines an elegant central bouquet of polychrome flowers with two stylised birds, in shades of blue, red, pink, yellow and ochre.

The composition is surrounded by several decorative registers, including gilt scrolling foliage and arabesques, polychrome floral bouquets and fine blue lines. The rim is enhanced with a delicate geometric gilt frieze.

The “Pondichery” pattern is well documented in Bernardaud’s production, with services including oval serving dishes regularly appearing in references, and some sales sources dating the pattern to the 1970s–1980s.

A particularly decorative set, suitable for use as serving dishes at the table, as well as for display or decorative purposes.
