Deep Serving Platter – Japanese-Inspired Decoration – Limoges, Second Half of the 20th Century
Description
This deep serving platter in Limoges porcelain is adorned with a delicate floral decoration inspired by Japanese art. Although the piece bears no maker’s mark, its flowering cherry blossom (sakura) motif is identical to that found on a Haviland soup tureen dated to the second half of the 20th century. This close correspondence suggests a possible connection with the Haviland manufactory, although a definitive attribution cannot be confirmed.
The platter is distinguished by its elegant, elaborately shaped rim, richly modelled in relief. Scrolling tendrils, leafy details and sculpted botanical ornaments animate the border, creating a subtle interplay of shadows and reflections across the glossy white porcelain.
The painted decoration features delicate branches, flower buds and pink blossoms with centres subtly accented in yellow, arranged in airy compositions around the well. The dark branches and nuanced foliage enhance the delicacy of the design and evoke the Japonisme aesthetic, which exerted a lasting influence on the French decorative arts.
The combination of generous relief modelling and delicate floral decoration gives this platter a striking decorative presence while preserving its refined elegance.
Designed for serving at the table, this piece is suitable for sharing dishes or can be displayed as a decorative object in a collection of Limoges porcelain.
Good overall condition considering its age. A small area of material loss is visible on the foot beneath the base. No other chips have been observed. The decoration retains its freshness and lustre.
