Art Nouveau White Porcelain Pitcher – France, c. 1890-1910

Elegant antique pitcher in glazed white porcelain, remarkable for the richness of its form and its entirely relief-molded decoration.

The body, slightly cylindrical and curved, is enlivened with vertical panels and ornamental relief motifs. The widely flared neck ends in a delicately upturned spout, while the particularly spectacular handle unfurls in a succession of soft, botanical curves.

The molded ornaments—volutes, stylized foliage, gadroons, and rocaille motifs—give the piece a sculptural presence while maintaining the sobriety of white. The whole evokes the late 19th-century taste for richly modeled white porcelains, at the intersection of historicist aesthetics and the nascent Art Nouveau.

Through its decorative vocabulary and organic lines, the piece can be compared to Art Nouveau production from the years 1890-1910. Limoges porcelains from this period notably feature handles and plant ornaments treated in relief, but no visible stamp here allows this pitcher to be attributed to a specific manufacturer.
