Small Porcelain Bowl – Blue Willow – England, Late 20th Century

Small white porcelain dish decorated in cobalt blue with a Chinese-inspired landscape characteristic of the famous Willow Pattern, also known as Blue Willow.

The central decoration depicts a landscape featuring pavilions and pagodas, stylized trees, a small boat on the water, and a bridge crossing the scene. Two flying birds are represented in the upper section, an iconic motif associated with the Willow Pattern.

The particularly rich border features a geometric blue trellis pattern interspersed with pavilions, floral motifs, foliage, and other Chinese-inspired ornaments. The outer rim is highlighted by a succession of small circular motifs.

The piece has a round, slightly recessed shape with a delicately scalloped edge and a small circular foot. Measuring 14 cm (5.5 in) in diameter, it is a charming little dish that can be used as a small bowl, trinket dish, or simply as a decorative piece.

The Willow Pattern, inspired by Chinese landscapes and motifs, was widely reproduced by numerous manufacturers over several generations. The design of this piece clearly belongs to this tradition; however, as no manufacturer's mark is visible on the underside, it is not possible to determine its maker or precise origin with certainty.
