Small Covered Vegetable Dish – Elite Works (Bawo & Dotter) – Limoges, c. 1900–1914

Small covered vegetable dish in hard-paste Limoges porcelain, manufactured by Elite Works, a factory belonging to Bawo & Dotter, a New York-based company specializing in the import and decoration of Limoges porcelain for the American market.

The piece features an elegant circular form resting on a small foot, with two side handles and a lid topped with a loop-shaped finial. Entirely made of white glazed porcelain, it is decorated with a delicate polychrome border composed of small pink flowers, green foliage and stylized ornamental motifs in a yellow-gold tone reminiscent of gold.

The handles, as well as the lid finial, are fully gilded. The gilding is remarkably well preserved considering the age of the piece, with only minor signs of wear.

The underside bears two characteristic Elite Works / Bawo & Dotter marks, one in red and the other in green, linking the piece to Limoges production from the early 20th century. This production was notably intended for the American market, which explains the presence of the “Made in France” designation.

With its compact dimensions — approximately 21 cm in diameter — and low profile, this piece is best described as a small covered vegetable dish or covered serving dish rather than a true soup tureen.

A particularly decorative antique piece, noteworthy both for its elegant floral decoration and its Elite Works marks.

Good overall condition considering its age. Gilding remarkably well preserved. Please note: an old chip / loss of porcelain is present on the underside of the lid, along the inner edge (see photograph). This defect is not visible when the lid is in place but can be seen when the lid is opened. No notable damage to the body of the piece.
