Set of Six Earthenware Soup Plates – Faïencerie de Gien, c. 1960–1970

Set of six white glazed earthenware soup plates, corresponding to the “Russia” model by the Gien Faience Factory.

The plates feature a sober and elegant form, characterized by a wide, slightly raised rim and a deeply recessed central well. Their glossy white glaze emphasizes the purity of the shape and its particularly refined, understated appearance.

The Russia model, also produced in Gien’s Terre de Fer and opaque porcelain, is distinguished by its classic, functional form, intended for tableware. Other serving pieces from the same model, including platters and a tureen, are also documented.

The reverse of each plate bears the printed blue inscription “RUSSIA.”
