Pair of Fine Earthenware Plates – P. Taurion and B. d’Albis – Limoges, c. 1920

With their understated elegance, these two antique fine earthenware plates feature a refined geometric chromolithographic decoration in deep fir green on a warm white earthenware ground. A fine border composed of small square motifs extends around the rim, forming an elegant octagonal composition punctuated at the corners by stylised geometric motifs. The remarkable regularity of the decoration, combined with the delicacy of the graphic design, reflects the careful production of the early 20th century.

The simple, well-balanced form is characterised by a broad, slightly recessed rim surrounding a generous central well. The warm whiteness of the earthenware lends softness and luminosity to the whole, while the deep green decoration gives the plates a particularly elegant presence.

Made of fine ironstone-type earthenware, these Art Deco plates, “Henri” pattern, can be dated to the early 20th century, around 1920. Their geometric aesthetic, still marked by the restrained style of the early years of the century, gives them a timeless decorative appeal.

Good overall condition for their age. Glossy glaze, with some minor wear to the decoration in places. A few age- and manufacture-related irregularities are visible and add to the charm of this distinctly modern-looking pair of plates.
