Bonbonnière / Jewellery Box – Manufacture Raynaud – Limoges, c. 1950

Magnificent antique bonbonnière in white Limoges porcelain, made by Manufacture Raynaud around 1950. It can also be used as a jewelry box or small decorative box.

With its circular shape and clean lines, this bonbonnière is made of white porcelain with a glossy glaze. Its decoration relies exclusively on the modelling of the porcelain itself, with no painted decoration or coloured accents.

The lid is centrally adorned with a delicately modelled rosebud in relief, accompanied by a few foliage elements, also in relief. The rim of the piece is embellished with an elegant floral decoration of applied, modelled flowers and foliage, creating a succession of raised motifs that stand out subtly against the white surface.

The uniform whiteness of the porcelain particularly enhances the volume of the decoration and the interplay of light across the glaze. The overall effect is refined and romantic, characteristic of decorative white porcelain objects from the mid-20th century.

Very good overall condition considering its age. The piece has two small firing cracks visible in the photographs, located in the decorated area and at its junction with the body of the bonbonnière. These cracks are manufacturing defects that occurred during the firing of the porcelain and were not caused by an impact or subsequent damage. They should therefore be regarded as firing irregularities, reflecting the craftsmanship of the piece, rather than chips or damage resulting from later use.
