Dinner Plate – Manufacture Chastagner – Limoges, 2nd Half of the 20th Century
Description
White Limoges porcelain dinner plate by the Chastagner & Cie manufactory, featuring a simple form with a richly decorated wide rim.
The border is composed of stylised botanical scrolls, foliage, and volutes rendered in shades of brown and gold. Two wide gold bands frame the rim, while the outer band is enhanced with a delicate repeating pattern of black and gold scrolls.
The richly ornamental, Historicist-inspired decoration remains perfectly balanced, combining elegant botanical elements with a more structured composition characteristic of mid-20th-century production. The generous use of gold gives the piece a particularly refined presence on a festive table.
The underside bears the “LIMOGES FRANCE” mark surmounted by a crown and the letter “C”, characteristic of the Chastagner manufactory. The Chastagner house, based in Limoges, is documented under the name Chastagner & Cie during the 1950s–1970s.
Very good overall condition. Decoration and gilding are very well preserved.
A particularly decorative piece, equally appealing on its own as a presentation plate or paired with other antique porcelains in a similar style to create a refined and eclectic table setting.
